Election 2021

Halifa said 2016 coalition failed in tackling some ills of the society

The PDOIS and Alhaji Mamadi Kurang’s Youth for Change have issued a communiqué after a close-door meeting, announcing their official alliance for the 2021 general election.

Alhaji Mamadi Kurang was among the 20 presidential aspirants who were disqualified by the IEC for not meeting its requirements to vie for President.

Earlier this week, reports have emerged of Alhaji Kurang’s Youth for Change merging with the PDOIS, and in a press conference on Friday, the Secretary General of the Socialist Party- Halifa Sallah- confirmed that Mr. Kurang has now joined the fold.

Confirming this, Halifa disclosed that after an in-camera meeting with Mr. Kurang, the leader of Youth for Change has given his endorsement to him as PDOIS presidential candidate.

According to Hon. Sallah, statements around 2016 coalition agreement and germane issues were made during the PDOIS/Alhaji Kurang and his Youth for Change meeting.

However, Hon. Sallah went on, ”the partners observed that the 2016 coalition has not succeeded in tackling some of the ills of the society as well as usher in the much-desired post-dictatorship transformations.”

Halifa said the PDOIS and partners have come to the realization that there is a sizeable component of the population and the Diaspora, who are disaffected by the state of affairs since 2017 and were yearning for system change.

He revealed that the partners have agreed to append their signatures to a document that spells out the terms of the endorsement of the PDOIS candidate.
