GCCI’s 2021 Trade Fair Kicks-Off

The 14th edition of the annual GCCI Trade Fair in The Gambia kicked off on Wednesday in Bakau.
The Gambia leader President Adama Barrow was at the Independence Stadium to witness the launch of the latest fair under the theme GCCI Partner 2021 to Progress.

The GCCI annual trade fair is the biggest exhibition event for businesses in The Gambia and it creates a platform for entrepreneurs to showcase their products to the public to generate sales.

The First Vice President of GCCI, Babucarr Khan, said youth and women have turned out in large numbers to participate in this year’s fair. The fair, he stated, avails young entrepreneurs the opportunity to show-off their creativity and passion for entrepreneurship.

The GCCI first vice-chair enthused that the fair has over the years gained massive growth locally. He explains that despite the Covid limitations, organizers expect thousands of people to visit the fairground as it obtained in previous years.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment, Ebrima Sisawo, described GCCI as key partner in shaping and supporting business development in the country. He stated that his ministry will continue its support to the GCCI for business development in the country.

PS Sisawo thanked the chambers for conducting trade fairs, describing this year’s fair as special. The government, he promised, will continue to support local business development for economic growth. President Adama Barrow said the Coronavirus-induced cancellation of the 2020 edition made him grace the launch of this year’s trade fair with his presence.

The Gambia leader said he recognizes the important role of GCCI in business development and called on businesses to get involved with the chambers as it’s here to promote local business growth. CEO of Unique Group, Papa Yuspha Njie, is participating in this year’s trade fair.

Shortly after the launching, President Barrow and ministers present were conducted through the stalls and he shared words of encouragement with owners.
