Insecurity, Voter Registration Take Centre Stage in CA Presser

The rising insecurity in the country and the forth-coming voter registration today took the centre stage in the Citizens’ Alliance 5th monthly press conference in Kanifing. The National President of CA, Dominic Mendy, said The Gambia has regressed to a state where everyone has to be vigilant no matter which time of the day, saying security of the country has been taken for granted.

He stated that even females were confident of their security but that killings, rapes and thefts have become the new normal. CA’s National President highlighted some of the issues, he believed, are responsible for the spike in crime.

He speaks of the need for the revisiting of the country’s economic growth policy to ensure adequate distribution of wealth, especially in creating job and other opportunities for the youth.

He stressed that Gambians should help themselves and hold the government accountable for every incident of insecurity as government is either unwilling to take steps or ignorant of them.

On the forthcoming voter registration, Mendy said . He called on Gambians, especially the youth to turn out en masse for the registration.

The Spokeswoman of the Citizen Alliance, Mrs Nene Freda Gomez, advised Gambians against voter apathy and urged them to wisely assert themselves in the coming poll.
