A video of a Police Intervention Unit officer punching a lady, who it seems is a tourist is currently making the rounds on social.
In the video, uploaded by popular online media company, What’s On-Gambia, there appears to be a scuffle between the fair lady and the officer – both unidentified. While some people intervened, she could be heard yelling, as she held unto the collar of the officer; “I swear to God…and I will damn you!”
The officer could also be heard severally, telling her to leave her uniform. But she demanded an apology from the officer. The officer then retorted with profanity “F***ing no sorry to you!”
The officer demanded the bystanders who were holding his hands to let go. The bystanders then pleaded with the lady to let go, but she wouldn’t, not without an apology.
“He punched me in the mouth. He would say sorry before I leave him”, she countered. It’s not clear if that’s what started the whole drama, but it definitely had something to do with it.
Subsequently, the officer managed to free his hand from one of the interveners, and he immediately lashed out at the lady, hitting her right on the face.
Star TV could not verify where the incident occurred. But as the lady sobs, the lady who was recording the incident, presumably a friend to the lady who got punched, said she has it on video. But then another man snapped at her for recording and knocked her mobile device down.
In the beginning of the video, behind the officer, a man who it seems was with the lady, appears to have also punched another officer as bystanders tried to restrain him.
It’s not quite clear what started the confrontation, but the video has gathered quite a lot of attention.
Star TV contacted the police PRO for comments, but she could not comment on the matter at this time.
