Abdoulie Jallow Withdraws Candidature, GDC Endorses UDP’s Modou-Lamin Bojang

By Ousman A. Marong

Abdoulie Jallow, the Gambia Democratic Congress candidate for the Kerewan Area Council Chairmanship in the North Bank Region (NBR), has formally withdrawn his candidature from the May 20th election – citing health reasons.

Jallow, who was duly nominated on May 3rd, wrote his withdrawal letter to the Returning Officer for the Kerewan Administrative Region’s Electoral.

In the letter, Jallow states;

“I write requesting for the above subject matter. You may recall that early this month I was nominated under the above-mentioned party ticket to run for the Kerewan Area Council (KAC). However due to circumstances surrounding my health, a doctor’s appointment too {two} times every week and a final appointment for a major surgery on Monday the 15th May, 2023. Based on the above health conditions, I cannot continue my campaign. I request for your support and consideration of the above subject matter. I remain yours sincere.”

Momodou-Lamin Bojang

Consequently, his party, the GDC, has asked their supporters to rally behind Modou-Lamin IL Bojang, the current Chairman and candidate for the United Democratic Party.

The news of the GDC endorsing the UDP candidate is no surprise though. The party announced last month that they had endorsed Talib Bensouda, Mayoral candidate of the UDP for the Kanifing Municipal Council.
