Organizations train youths on peace maintenance in election period

Patriotic Youth Association of the Gambia in partnership with Al-Karama Society over the weekend convened an awareness event in maintenance of peace and harmony before, during, and after the election. The event which was meant to also empower youths took place at the Sukuta Upper and Senior Secondary School.

The two organizations which have similar aims deemed it necessary to organize the awareness creation event to sensitize the youths on their roles in maintaining peace before, during and after the December poll.

Demba Kandeh, Assistant Social Secretary of PYAG, advised Gambians to maintain peace amongst ourselves and not allow politics to separate us. According to him, children, youths and women are the most affected when violence erupts.

Representatives from Al-Karama Society were also present at the convergence. One of them was Mama Sillah, the Deputy Secretary of the organization. She said that they are pleased to be partners with the PYAG because they have similar plans, aims and objectives to achieve. This, according to her, is to maintain peace and unity among people.

Musa Saidy, the President of the Patriotic Youth Association- Gambia, advises young people to come on board and join the association to take the country forward.

The Secretary General of PYAG, Rohey Sanneh, acknowledged that they don’t only advocate for peace, but every sector as far as national issue is concerned. She noted that they stand up whenever youths have to pick up a challenge to fight for everything that concerns the population.

Patriotic Youth Association- Gambia was established in 2015. The main aim of the association is to preach peace wherever there is conflict in the country; both in the rural and urban areas.
