High Commissioner Jahumpa Ceesay Presents Credentials to President of Botswana

The High Commissioner of The Gambia to Botswana, Dr. Fatoumata Jahumpa Ceesay, met with President Eric Masisi on Wednesday to officially present her credentials as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of The Gambia to Botswana. Accompanying her was Mr. Ousainou Rambo Jatta, the Counsellor at the Gambian High Commission.

During the meeting, Ambassador Jahumpa expressed her honour and delight in presenting the Letters of Credence from President Adama Barrow. She emphasised her commitment to strengthening the already robust ties between the two countries, which are founded on shared values of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

Highlighting the historical connection between The Gambia and Botswana, Ambassador Jahumpa recalled how some Gambian students had previously studied in Botswana when The Gambia did not have its own university. She stated her desire to build upon this foundation and explore other areas of cooperation between the two nations.

Ambassador Jahumpa also noted her interest in pursuing a technical and cultural agreement that would elevate the existing excellent relations to new heights. In addition, she requested support for initiatives such as the vaccination of animals, the inauguration of a street named after Late and former President, Sir Dawda K Jawara, and efforts to enhance tourism, among others.

Concluding her statement, Ambassador Jahumpa conveyed her confidence in receiving the personal support of President Masisi and his government in further strengthening the bilateral relations between The Gambia and Botswana.

His Excellency Dr. Masisi stressed the importance of enhanced cooperation in areas of mutual interest with emphasis on taking advantage of the opportunities in the areas that will stimulate investment and trade between Botswana and countries that are accredited to Botswana.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Jahumpa and her delegation visited the main road in Gaborone, Botswana, which is named after Late Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara.
