By Mariama Dem
Hon. Hamat NK Bah, leader of the National Reconciliation Party and Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, stressed the imperative of improved management of state resources and land use to address various challenges, including the backway dilemma and religious coexistence, during the political parties dialogue on Monday.
Speaking at the event, Bah called for urgent action to ensure the proper management of state resources, stressing that issues related to land usage and management must be addressed comprehensively to safeguard national security.
Highlighting the importance of religious tolerance and an inclusive political environment, Bah emphasised the need to prevent the abuse of religious platforms for incitement or insults, as he advocates for measures similar to those in other countries where speech is licensed.
Addressing the issue of the “back way” journey and its tragic consequences, Bah urged a focus on addressing the root causes, emphasising the need for a robust educational system to provide hope and opportunities for the youth, thereby dissuading dangerous migration attempts.
Bah also advocated for constructive political debates over personal attacks and stressed the importance of protecting women in politics, thereby ensuring their full participation and comfort in political discourse.
Regarding the high cost of living, Bah clarified that while the government bears responsibility, he urged prioritising agriculture as a solution to economic challenges.
The political parties dialogue, convened by President Barrow at the State House in Banjul, aims to facilitate constructive discussions among political parties on key national issues.
