Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 10 million people in over 150 countries and territories who campaign to end abuses of human’s rights. However, Amnesty International is currently in the Gambia to send a message of peace to politicians.

During her deliberation, Michele Eken, West Africa Researcher, said they have met political parties to present the human’s rights manifesto which was co-signed by various civil service organization including the Gambia Press Union, SOC on Election, the Gambia Bar Association, Think Young Women, Women in Libation and Leadership, and the Gender Platform.

The Senior Program Director of the Gambia Press Union, Modou Joof, stressed the need for politicians to respect and promote freedom of expression as stated on article 19 of the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights.

The National Coordinator- Gambia Centre for Victims of Human’s Rights Violations, Adama Jallow, also urged politicians to act in accordance with the TRRC recommendations in ensuring that justice is served to the victims of human’s rights violations as well as to end impunity in the country.

The organization will continue to put pressure on politicians in order for them to adhere to Amnesty International’s manifesto.

Moreover, The Amnesty International has played a very crucial role in supporting the victims of human’s rights violations in many African countries. This includes victims of Yahya Jammeh’s 22-year rule in the Gambia.
