Turkey Donates Communication Devices to Gambia Armed Forces

The Republic of Turkey extended its support to the Gambia Armed Forces by donating communication devices at a ceremony held at the Defense headquarters in Banjul on Thursday. The event, graced by the Minister of Defence and principal officers of the Gambia Armed Forces, marks a continued partnership between Turkey and the Gambia in enhancing military capabilities.

The Turkish Ambassador to the Gambia, Tolga Bermek, emphasised that the communication material donation underscores the strong relationship between Turkey and the Gambia Armed Forces. Despite the geographical distance, the Turkish Ambassador expressed a commitment to deepening the brotherhood with the Gambia Armed Forces.

Minister for Defense, Sering Modou Njie, described the relationship with the Republic of Turkey as genuine, highlighting its significance to the Gambian government. He acknowledged ongoing support from Turkey, ranging from budget assistance to personnel training and transportation. Minister Njie noted that the donated gadget would serve as a morale booster for the dedicated men and women in uniform, emphasising efforts to enhance military relations between Banjul and Ankara.

Chief of Defence Staff of the Gambia Armed Force, Major General Mamat O Cham, expressed a commitment to strengthening ties with Ankara. He highlighted the continuous support received from the people of Turkey, emphasizing the positive impact on capacity building and material support for the Gambia Armed Forces.

Major General Cham noted that the donated materials, manufactured by a leading military institution in Ankara, include handheld radios, fixed center radios, and vehicular-mounted radios. These items are expected to enhance the operational capabilities of the Gambia Armed Forces both domestically and internationally.
