NACCUG Gathers Credit Union Managers and Volunteers

Article By: Adama Jang Jallow

A three-day workshop organized by the National Association of Cooperative Credit Unions came to a close on Saturday in Bakau. The nation’s apex credit union gathered managers and volunteers to brainstorm on tackling emerging challenges for credit unions’ sustainability.

On day three of the workshop, the General Manager of the Gambia Teachers’ Cooperative Credit Union, Baboucarr O. Joof, gave a lecture on some of the emerging challenges of credit unions’ sustainability to NACCUG while admitting that some of the challenges besetting credit unions outdated the unions and was quick to add that some have been created by the unions themselves.

Former General Manager of NACCUG, Mr Babucarr Jeng, talked about the regulation of credit unions, indicating that unions are not afraid of being regulated but that regulation must be done by people who know their work.

Established in 1991, NACCUG is fully registered and licensed by the Central Bank of The Gambia to represent affiliated micro-financing member credit unions in the country.
