By Omar Jobe

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has officially handed over a newly constructed football field to the Sandu district sports committee in the Upper River Region. The completion of this phase of the project was celebrated during the Ministry’s delegation visit to Diabugu on Saturday.

Led by Youth and Sports Minister Hon. Bakary Y. Badjie, the delegation, accompanied by officials from the ministry and the National Assembly Select Committee on youth and sport, commended the community for their cooperation and patience despite delays from the contractor.

Minister Badjie highlighted the significance of such initiatives in promoting sports development at both community and regional levels. This, he says, reaffirms the Ministry’s commitment to empowering youth and expanding sports infrastructure, particularly in rural areas of The Gambia.

Hon. Ebrima Jaiteh, the National Assembly Member for Sandu district, expressed gratitude to the Government of The Gambia and the Ministry for launching the project. He expressed hope for similar endeavors in the future. He pledged the community’s commitment to maintaining and managing the newly acquired facilities.

Ebrima Darboe and Ebrima D Bah, chairman and Secretary General of the Sandu Batafa Sports Committee respectively, extended their appreciation to the Ministry for its efforts and called for additional support to complete pending tasks such as the pavilion and athletics track.
