Local baker gets 50 bags of flour and 2 tricycles for selling bread at D7

The initiative came off the back of his refusal to bandwagon with other local bakers to increase the bread price.

The baker in his mid-30’s has been instrumental in providing solutions to the community of Brikama’s bread constraint through the provision of quality and affordable bread.

The project, under the UNDP, is geared towards promoting entrepreneurial and private sector growth. On Monday, it presented 50 bags of flour and two tricycles to the local bakery owner in an event held at the Trade Ministry in Banjul.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary for Technical at the Ministry of Trade, Abdoulie Jammeh, said they deemed it necessary to render support to the young entrepreneur to widen his distribution network. ”This,” he continued, ”was as a result of his hard work and honesty in providing quality and affordable bread in Brikama.”

He expressed the Trade Ministry’s willingness to modernize the bakery so it can serve as a ground for training youths interested in bakery.

DPS Jammeh said the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment is closely collaborating with the UNDP in supporting the empowerment of youths by giving them skills to be gainfully employed.

The beneficiary, Saikou Bojang, said he was delighted by and appreciative of the support. He noted that the support will greatly reflect on the provision of quality and affordable bread to his community.

Bojang further encouraged his fellow youths to acquire skills in order to be self-reliant and positively contribute to the country economic growth.
