Gambia Police Receive Modern Investigation Equipment

By Modou L. Badjie

The Gambia Police Force has received a donation of modern investigation gadgets from the Gambia Guardian Intelligence and Investigation Services. The equipment was presented to the police high command at a ceremony held at the police headquarters in Banjul on Thursday.

The prestigious donation is aimed at boosting the government’s ongoing security sector reform process by providing the police force with modern tools to enhance its investigative capabilities, especially at crime scenes.

Deputy Inspector General Momodou Sowe, representing the Inspector General of Police, expressed profound gratitude for the donation. He emphasised the immense value the items will add to the police force, particularly in strengthening investigative procedures and evidence collection.

Mr Sowe applauded the donor, describing the gesture as timely. He also challenged philanthropists and Gambians to support the police force, stating that the government cannot do it alone.

Omar Tunkara, representing the Gambia Guardian Intelligence and Investigation Services, said the gesture is aimed at supporting the police force in actualising its constitutional mandates, particularly in the area of investigations.

Mr Tunkara noted that the organisation is a non-profit dedicated to providing support, adding that the donation of forensic investigation apparatus is part of its endeavours to complement the government’s security reform agenda.

The donated items include evidence bags, crime scene markers, cameras for crime scene documentation, shoe covers, DNA and blood sampling kits, tyre and footprint casting frames, luminal powder for blood detection, protective suits, gloves, microscope slides, UV flashlights for fluid detection, a latent fingerprint kit, crime scene tape, and evidence labels.
