Gambia national team gets down to training camp in Morocco

Article by: Zackline Colley

The national senior team has gathered in Morocco as it begins its international training camp today in preparations for the AFCON in 2022. This will be the Gambia’s maiden appearance in the Africa Cup of Nations.

The national team Coach Tom Saintfiet has last month called a 26-man squad that will represent the Gambia in a training Camp and test matches in El Jadida, a major port city on the Atlantic coast of Morocco. This is geared towards preparing the team for the AFCON tournament as many Gambians rally behind the team to boost the courage of the players.

The city will host the scorpions from October 4th to 12th in the upcoming FIFA international window.

Coach Tom and his charges will clash with Morocco’s CHAN team in their first match on Thursday before facing Sierra Leone in their second match on Saturday.

The Gambian team will then lock horns with South Sudan in their third and final match next week Tuesday.

The Morocco camp is to prepare the team ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted in Cameroon.

The Gambia have been drawn against Tunisia, Mali and Mauritania in Group F of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.
