GAF Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team Completes Intensive Training

The Gambia Armed Forces Combat Engineers’ Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has concluded a rigorous 3-week refresher course aimed at honing their critical skills.

The 15-person team underwent intensive training at the Tintiba Firing and Demolition Range, covering demolition procedures, explosive theories, ammunition handling and techniques to detect and dispose of unexploded ordnances.

Vital Combat Support Role On the battlefield, EOD teams provide vital support to infantry forces by neutralising explosive threats. The refresher bolstered their readiness for this high-stakes mission.

At the closing ceremony, Lt Col Babucarr Sanyang, representing the Chief of Defence Staff, commended the graduates on their dedication. He urged them to stay adaptable amid evolving warfare technologies.

Lt Col Sanyang also expressed appreciation to lead trainer Major Babucarr Bah for his crucial role ensuring the course’s success.

Demonstration Exercise A practical demonstration highlighted the training, allowing observers to gauge the participants’ newly honed capabilities before they redeploy to their units.

The graduates were officially certified with the award of EOD badges during the ceremony attended by officers from the Fourth Infantry Battalion in Kanilai village.

The refresher underscores the GAF’s commitment to maintaining a skilled EOD contingent capable of handling any explosive scenario in defense of the nation.
