By Mbye Corr

The Gambia United Breeders Association (GUBA) and the Department of Livestock – Ministry of Agriculture, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the Abuko Department of Livestock. The partnership aims to improve livestock practices, focusing on knowledge sharing, capacity building, and promoting best practices in the industry.

The MOU underscores a mutual commitment to close cooperation, with a focus on diverse areas including knowledge exchange, capacity enhancement, and the promotion of best practices in livestock management. Through this alliance, concerted efforts will be directed towards refining breeding techniques and overall livestock practices to ensure heightened quality and sustainable development within the sector.

Representing the Department of Livestock, Dr. Abdou Ceesay underscored the government’s cognisance of the challenges confronting Gambians, particularly during the “Tobaski” period. He reiterated government’s commitment to alleviating these challenges, ensuring equitable access to rams during this critical period.

Mustapha John, President of GUBA, emphasised the critical role of government support, particularly from the livestock service department under the Ministry of Agriculture, in implementing key initiatives such as Animal Health and Tobaski operations. He stressed the paramount importance of collaborative efforts in driving positive transformations and elevating livestock practices nationwide.
